Mr. S. C. Dilanka Fernando received scholarship for PhD

Mr. S. C. Dilanka Fernando received a full scholarship (2016-2019) for post graduate studies leading to a PhD in Cancer Research at the Monash University, Australia. He will be attached to the Department of Molecular and Translational Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

Mr. Dilanka Fernando graduated from Institute of Chemistry Ceylon with a First Class Honours pass. He obtained his Master’s degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo and obtained best overall performance award (2nd place) out of 20 students in the Master’s degree programme. His research work was focused on the area of Pharmacognosy and Bio-activity studies under the supervision of Professor Preethi Soysa. He is a Corporate Member of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon and an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK. He has served the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon as a Senior Teaching Assistant, Lecturer for the DLTC programme and Assistant Secretary of the Academic Board of the College of Chemical Sciences. He has also functioned as a Visiting Lecturer for Biochemistry at Management & Science Institute, Colombo 03.

He is the recipient of the following Research Awards:

  • Professor M.U.S. Sultanbawa Award for Research in Chemistry – 2015
  • Kandiah Memorial Graduateship Award – 2015
