Clubs and Societies

Rotract Club

The Rotract Club of the College of Chemical Sciences provides an opportunity for the young men and women of the College of Chemical Sciences to enhance their social and inter-personal skills that will assist them in their careers as future professional, to develop an awareness and address the physical and social needs of their communities, and also to promote better relations between all the classes of people in their communities through a framework of friendship and service.

Goals and Objectives:

  • To develop social, inter-personal, professional and leadership skills.
  • To emphasize respect for the rights of others, and to promote ethical standards and  the dignity of all useful occupations.
  • To provide opportunities for young people to address the needs and concerns of their community.
  • To provide opportunities for working in cooperation with our sponsoring Rotary club.
  • To motivate young people for eventual membership in Rotary.

Photography Club

The Photography Club is aimed at increasing the awareness of student photographers towards the different dimensions of photography such as artistry and professionalism. The club motivates students to learn and share new ideas and techniques with their peers who share similar interests and improve their imaginative power through the practice of cinematography and photography. The club emphasizes on a high degree of aesthetic sense as it can be reflected via photographic works. The members also play a crucial part in providing photographic coverage for all important activities taking place at the Institute.

Analytical Club

The club was initiated in February 2015 by Dr. Ranmal Gunathilake. The basic goal of initiating this club was to promote the interest of students towards the latest in cutting edge technology in the scientific research community. The club holds monthly meeting where presentations are done by its members.

The Saukyadana Unit

The Saukyadana Unit of College of Chemical Sciences represent the Sri Lanka Saukyadana movement and it was established in May 2016 under the guidance of Dr. Chinthaka Ratnaweera.
Currently Saukyadana Unit engages in providing

    • Education and training of the youth of CCS in first aid & health promotion
    • Conducting  first aid / medical camps at large scale public events
    • Provision of first aid / medical aid during natural disasters and national calamities
    • Community welfare projects such as provision of educational aid and food stuff to areas of need.
    • Community health programs


Organic Chemistry Club

The organic chemistry club aims to provide a greater insight to the field of organic chemistry. This is achieved through conducting frequent popular talks by well renowned organic chemistry. personnel and fun filled activity sessions that helps students discuss , demonstrate and creatively. participate. Also, industrial visits are being organised by the club to provide students with an opportunity to gain experience regarding the practical world. Dr Dinusha Udukula is currently in charge of this club.

Society of Magicians

“Chemistry Magic Show” of the College was initiated as a means of popularizing the chemical sciences among school children. During the show numerous acts are performed utilizing various chemical reactions, illusions as well as theatric performance. Of these acts, a few selected magic tricks are revealed to the audience through presentations in order to build awareness and to make students look through a perspective of science rather than in magic or illusions. This magic show has evolved immensely over the past few years due to the enormous contribution from many of our past and present members of this club.
