Y. Vindula Alwis, a graduate Teaching Assistant to the College of Chemical Sciences, Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, has succeeded in bringing glory to his Alma Mater by securing the Second Place in the Inter-University Undergraduate Thesis competition, organized by the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS). Out of several candidates from nine state universities and other higher educational institutes across the country, ten contestants were selected for the final round by the evaluation of abstracts. The final round was held as virtual presentations on the 10th of October. Mr. Alwis presented his undergraduate research, “Synthesis, evaluation and structure activity relationship study of 2-phenyl-3H-quinazolin-4-one derivatives as urease inhibitors against Helicobacter pylori“, carried out under the supervision of Dr. Dinusha N Udukala and Dr. Medha J Gunaratne. This research study was previously awarded the “Best Research project beneficial for the country” by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. It is indeed an honour to the Institute and we wish him all the best for his future endeavours!
