The 49th Annual session and the 79th Anniversary celebrations of Institute of Chemistry Ceylon were held on the 13th of August at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 07.Prof. Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne, the Vice Chancellor of University of Colombo was the chief guest for the ceremony. The outgoing president of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon for the year 2019/2020, Prof. Priyani Paranagama delivered the presidential address on “Shaping Careers of Chemists Through the Advancements of Chemical Technology.”Ramakrishna Memorial Award was granted preliminary to Dr. S. R. Gunatilake, a Senior Lecturer at College of Chemical Sciences, where he delivered a lecture on “From Biomass to Biochar: A Potential Means of Solid Waste Management of Sri Lanka”. Ms. E.A.C. Priyadarshani, Department of Chemistry, University of Sri Jayawardenapura was the recepient of the Kandiah Award for Applied Chemistry. Ms. T.C.T. Peiris of College of Chemical Sciences was awarded the Kandiah Memorial Graduateship Award and Prof. M.U.S. Sulthanbawa Award for Research in Chemistry was awarded to Ms. A.A.D.T. Abeysinghe of University of Sri Jayawardenapura. Finalists from both All Island Chemistry Quiz Competition and National Chemistry Olympiad Competition, scholarship and prize winners of the Graduateship in Chemistry were among the award winners of the ceremony.
